The new owners of this charming, classic seasonal Maine camp respected the existing simple, open living space yet wanted to explore the option of year round use.  The central fireplace in a basic square plan defines the space, with a long porch along the lakeside for casual dining, socializing and views.  Additional volumes for the bedroom and the bathroom project out on opposite sides of the main central gathering spaces.  One challenge of the initial project was to take this seasonal camp and winterize it while retaining the “campy” qualities.  Pine boards of various widths and textures were used on the interior, rather than sheetrock, to maintain the natural look.  Wood windows will also keep the camp feeling.  A new bathroom layout  greatly improves the flow and use of that space.  Of course, the scope includes needed electrical upgrades, new lighting and a mini-split system.  The owners determined that for now they would keep it a seasonal camp and completed the bathroom / pantry renovation at this time.  Staying at a camp in Maine is an experience which returns one to a simpler life and provides quiet time to reconnect with nature and enjoy sports of all kinds.  The project will have a second phase to create a study perched above the garage with dramatic bog views.
