A delegation of
25 planning professionals and officials from Sichuan province of China came to Sunnyside for a lecture and tour by Laura Heim and Jeffrey Kroessler. The goal was to share the lessons and successes of planned, low density growth as exemplified by Sunnyside Gardens. The Chinese officials were participating in the American Planning Associations perennial Chinese Mayor Training Program. These leaders from Chengdu represent a center city with a population of 11 million and many smaller county-level cities in the surrounding area each with 500,000 to 3 million inhabitants.
