Office Building

Beijing, China

Program: Bank and Offices
Area: 32,500 m²
Status: Design 1994

The Beijing Office Building called for 15 stories of an open office plan and facilities at the base for a bank and parking provided below grade.  The design process included many clay model iterations.  The scheme that emerged provides flexible floor plates while fracturing the scale of the building through an articulated facade treatment and a massing form of intersecting volumes with setbacks above.  The mass of the building opens to the corner to acknowledge the intersection of the major road and the more minor entrance road.  This building was to be located in a rapidly developing neighborhood in Beijing.
