Restoring Urban Neighborhoods (RUN), a not-for-profit and affiliate of Neighborhood Restore Housing Development Fund Corporation, has returned to Heim Architect to restore an additional four abandoned houses in Jamaica as well as Far Rockaway. Each of these projects has had a striking impact on the neighborhood. These residential projects are one and two-family houses, wood frame and masonry, which receive a gut renovation as they have been abandoned for years. The houses range from a large two family from the 1920s to a bay residence in a flood zone which will be converted from a two to a one-family residence to elevate above the DFE. Key to the restoration was the use of cutting edge sustainable features using 2015 Enterprise Green Communities Criteria; new foam insulation, exterior siding, energy efficient windows and doors as well as an entirely new heating systems that greatly improved the buildings energy efficiency. On the interior, they have been restored with the addition of elements such as powder rooms and reconfigured storage. The restoration of these houses greatly enhances the neighborhood and streets where they are located.
